Highlighted days are US federal holidays on the dates federal employees observe them (OPM).
How to open it in Google Sheets
Google Sheets can import .xlsx files (File › Import). The steps from Google's help page:
- On your computer, open or create a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.
- At the top, click File › Import.
- Choose the .xlsx file you downloaded.
- Select an import option, for example “Create new spreadsheet” or “Insert new sheets”.
- Click Import.
What's in the file
- Calendar: one sheet per month (named like “Jan 2026”) or one “Calendar” sheet with the months stacked. Each month has a title, a weekday header and six week rows; under each day number there is a cell for your notes, where holidays and your events are already written, one line each and up to four a day (longer names are shortened with “…”; a busier day ends with “+N more, see list”). Weekends are shaded and holidays highlighted.
- Holidays & events: every holiday and event in the calendar with its date, weekday, full name and type, sorted by date.
- How to use: short notes on typing in the calendar and importing it into Google Sheets.
Day numbers are typed values, not formulas. Each month is set to print on its own landscape page.
About the holidays
The holidays are the US federal holidays from the OPM holiday schedules for 2025–2030, on the observed dates: when a holiday falls on a Saturday, most federal employees get the Friday before; on a Sunday, the Monday after (for example, Independence Day 2026 is observed on Friday, July 3). The names are the ones OPM uses, such as “Washington’s Birthday”. Inauguration Day is not included, because it applies only to federal employees in the Washington, DC area. To mark other days off, add them as your own events.

Need a week of time slots instead? The Weekly schedule template lays out time blocks or employee shifts by day and hour.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this Google Sheets calendar template free?
- Yes. Choose your months above and press Download .xlsx. The file is built in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to us or saved.
- How do I get it into Google Sheets?
- Open or create a spreadsheet in Google Sheets, click File > Import, choose the downloaded .xlsx file, select an import option such as “Create new spreadsheet” and click Import.
- Can I make a yearly calendar or just one month?
- Both. Pick any first month and 1 to 12 months; the range can run into the next year. Choose one sheet per month, or one sheet with the months stacked.
- Which holidays does it mark?
- US federal holidays from the OPM schedule for 2025–2030, on the dates federal employees observe them. Inauguration Day, which applies only in the Washington, DC area, is not included. For other years the holiday option is off.
- Can I add my own events?
- Yes, up to 200 events with a label of up to 60 characters. They appear under the day number in the file, with the holidays, and in full in the Holidays & events sheet.
